Arthur Piza
Piza was born in Sao Paulo. Having begun his training as a printmaker in his native Brazil, he moved to Paris in 1955 and began to work with Johnny Friedlaender. However he soon began experimenting with ways to make more three dimensional prints. Using very thick copper plates, he devised his own unique "gouge" technique by incising designs into his plates with hammers and various shaped chisels. He has had a long and successful career, with exhibitions, awards and placement in museum collections world-wide. Piza continued to live in Paris, working both on prints and more structural, sculptural representations of his designs, until his deeath in 2017.
