Based on an earlier drawing of Tazé’s first atelier, the depiction achieves an admirable blending of realistic detail with abstracted geometry, the latter emphasized by divisions in shading. It’s worth noting that the formal austerity of this work is achieved purely through etching and roulette, absent the tonal subtleties afforded by his customary use of aquatint.
